Make a Meal of Cheese

It’s 1973 and you’ve just accidentally bought a massive wheel of cheese. You’ve tried using it to replace the front tyre on your Robin Reliant (fail) and pitching it as a culinary spin off to wheel of fortune (still in production hell). Time to get some advice from the bible of coagulated milk protein, Make a Meal of Cheese.

Before you do, let’s appreciate the illustrations. As someone born in ’76, they look like every children’s TV show. Comforting, but you know it can turn to psychedelic horror at any moment. And what about that typeface! It has the serifs of the seraphim. Groovy.

Talking of history, this is what Cleopatra would have served at her royal soirees.

Ah, that classic country sports event…

Melon and Prawn cocktail, the most 70s of starters. Wait, what’s this? Some chunks of cheddar cheese are photobombing (recipe-bombing?) the scene? Cheese is so versatile and so cheeky.

I can’t explain it, but this thing belongs in a stress dream. Hollow Loaf, the chilling sequel to Backrooms.

Finally, this. Even I, inventor of Sweet and Sour Fish Fingers, think this sounds a bit grim. Can’t say that one day I won’t try it, though.

(Book found by my mate Clare, who may just have discovered it in a dream)
